A Child Carrying a Bag

Project type

Musical play

Role

Producing, Design, Editing

The original work is A Child Carrying a Bag, a representative piece by children’s literature author Ko Jung-wook.
The book, a bestseller with over one million copies sold, is also included in Korean language textbooks as essential reading for primary school students. Ko Jung-wook is a bestselling children’s literature author, with more than 380 published works and over five million copies sold.

He was also nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, often referred to as the Nobel Prize for children’s literature, and is a recipient of the prestigious Han Jeong-dong Children’s Literature Award, a symbol of Korean children’s literature. For this production, the original author Ko Jung-wook also took part directly in the script composition and rehearsal process.

While the original work focused on two characters, this stage version centres on the stories of five children from diverse backgrounds, including disability, single-parent households, and multicultural families.

The executive producer is Shin Eun-ae, planning director of Art Cube Company. Shin Eun-ae is a visually impaired pianist who represented Korea at the International Piano Paralympics in Vienna. As both a person with a disability and a parent of two children, she has been involved from the planning stage, aiming to create a family performance suited to the era of inclusive education.
